Welcome to the ECVM

Founded in 2016, the European College of Veterinary Microbiology is a constituent College of the European Board of Veterinary Specialization, dedicated to specialist training, certification and advancing veterinary microbiology across Europe.

Aim

What is the aim of the ECVM?

To provide specialist training and certification of veterinarians in veterinary microbiology across Europe, maintaining and enhancing the quality of European Veterinary Specialists at the highest possible level.

Mission

Our Mission

To contribute significantly to improved veterinary medical services to the public by ensuring European Specialists in Veterinary Microbiology practise at the highest level across all European countries.

What do we do?

Establishing guidelines for post-graduate education and training as a prerequisite to becoming a European Specialist in veterinary microbiology

Examining and authenticating veterinarians as European Specialists who serve the veterinary patient, its owner and the public

Encouraging research and contributing to knowledge in all aspects of veterinary microbiology, promoting communication and dissemination

Development, supervision and assessment of continuing education programmes in veterinary microbiology across Europe

About Residency Programmes

Each ECVM residency is an approved training programme under the guidance of ECVM Diplomate(s). The minimum duration is three years.

Provide broadly-based theoretical and practical experience in veterinary microbiology
Promote high quality training in the discipline
Pursue career goals in academia, industry and public service
Meet the training requirements for the ECVM certifying examination
Produce reports and articles to peer-reviewed publication standard
Culture
Professional Development

Programmes must develop a culture recognising continuous professional development, engendering the self-confidence, self-criticism and sense of responsibility expected of European Veterinary Specialists.
