Vanessa Silva was graduated from Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar da Universidade do Porto (ICBAS-UP), Portugal in 2011. As a student her interest in microbiology began and being aware of the importance of One Health approach she trained in the North Regional Health Administration working closely with medical doctors and environmental health technicians in zoonosis.
She began working in a microbiology diagnostic lab as soon as she graduated and since has been head of the Clinical Microbiology Department and of the Food Microbiology Department of Segalab – Animal Sanity and Food Safety Laboratory. Currently she is responsible for the Clinical Microbiology Diagnostic unit of Cedivet – Veterinary Diagnostic Center (a part of the Unilabs Group) in Oporto, Portugal.
In 2022 she began her ECVM residency with Prof. Patrícia Poeta Full Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) (DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVM) as main Supervisor and Residency Programme Director.
