The Faculté de médecine vétérinaire (FMV) of the Université de Montréal is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in Veterinary Bacteriology to join the dynamic multidisciplinary team of the Department of Pathology and Microbiology. The FMV is located in Saint-Hyacinthe, the agricultural capital of Quebec with 57 000 inhabitants. The FMV is located 60 km (37 miles) from Montreal, a vibrant city with an international airport and excellent flight connections to Europe, the USA and South America. The candidate will be expected to conduct an innovative and independent research program and obtain research grants from external agencies, using a modern and creative scientific approach focused primarily on basic and/or applied research in veterinary bacteriology. However, interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged. The candidate will also participate in the diagnostic activities of the clinical bacteriology laboratory of the Centre de diagnostic vétérinaire de l’Université de Montréal. This laboratory, in partnership with the Government of Quebec, serves the clientele of the Centre hospitalier universitaire vétérinaire (CHUV) and a large part of the Quebec territory; the numerous cases are therefore of a multi-species nature. This laboratory is at the cutting edge of technology with a Maldi-Tof for bacterial identifications as well as access to highspeed sequencing. The candidate will work in a dynamic team of three Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists in bacteriology.

As a professor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the excellence of the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire:

Through your teaching and your research activities. You will also ensure the visibility of your discipline in addition to actively participating in the operation of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

Teach students enrolled in the DVM program;
Participate in the teaching and training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. This includes the supervision of students from the Veterinary Residency Program, Diagnostic Laboratory option as part of the Specialized Studies Diploma (D.E.S.); professional training that may lead to certification by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM);
Develop an autonomous research program in an area linked to the assignment; collaborative research is also encouraged;
Participate in the diagnostic activities of the clinical bacteriology laboratory of the Centre de diagnostic vétérinaire de l’Université de Montréal;
Participate in outreach activities in bacteriology (publications, conferences, etc.);
Contribute to the University operations.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent;
Ph. D. degree, or in the process of completing a PhD, in the field of Veterinary Bacteriology;
or an M. Sc. Degree or equivalent in the field of Veterinary Bacteriology and Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM) or European College of Veterinary Microbiology (ECVM); candidates who are eligible to sit for the certification exams of these colleges will also be considered;
Expertise in molecular biology and/or antimicrobial resistance would be an asset;
Eligibility to practice veterinary medicine in the province of Québec (Canada) issued by the Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec;
An adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. An institutional learning support program is offered to all professors wishing to learn French or improve their communication skills.
