Dr Els Broens

Dr. Broens received her veterinary degree from Utrecht University (UU), the Netherlands in 1998 and started as large animal practitioner. She returned to UU to lecture on Infectious Diseases and then moved to Wageningen University, the Netherlands, where she finished a PhD on MRSA in pigs in 2011. After finalizing her PhD, Dr. Broens became director of the Veterinary Microbiological Diagnostic Center (VMDC) that is part of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at UU. Dr. Broens became Dutch specialist in Veterinary Microbiology in 2012 (Royal Netherlands Veterinary Association) and currently Dr. Broens is supervisor of two residents and secretary of the national Specialization and Registration Committee for Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Broens became Associate Professor at her current position in 2018. From 2017-2019 Dr. Broens was secretary of the ESCMID Study Group for Veterinary Microbiology (ESGVM) and in April 2019, Dr. Broens was elected as chair of ESGVM.
