Dr Silvana Sosa-Portugal

Resident

Silvana graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2015 from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain). She has always been interested in infectious diseases and her degree dissertation was on Feline infectious peritonitis. Following this, she did a postgraduate course in small animal internal medicine. Later on, she was awarded a full scholarship to start a PhD in the same university working with Influenza A virus, focused on molecular virology and full genome sequencing. After her graduation in 2020, she worked as an A-level Biology teacher while doing an online postgraduate course in Feline medicine with the University of Sydney. She then worked in a veterinary hospital in the centre of Barcelona. Her main areas of interest are clinical microbiology, infectious diseases, immunology and pathogen-host interactions.

In August 2022, Silvana started her residency training in the University of Liverpool, with Dr. Dorina Timofte as Supervisor, where she also teaches undergraduate students during their bacteriology rotations.
