Dr Katharina Windbichler

Resident

Dr. Katharina Windbichler obtained her veterinary degree in 2015 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany. After graduation she worked as a clinician for small animals for a period of 6 months. Subsequently, she specialized in veterinary pathology and qualified for the ECVP board examination by completing an internship and a 3-year residency program at the Institute of Veterinary Pathology, University of Zurich. In parallel to this training program, Dr. Windbichler prepared her doctoral thesis in the field of reptarenavirus infections of boid snakes with a focus on serological methods as a possible diagnostic tool for boid inclusion body disease (BIBD) in vivo.

Following this, she worked in a post-doctoral position at the Institute of Veterinary Anatomy, University of Bern, predominantly participating in students’ education by holding lectures and courses and by conducting exams.

In April 2024, she started her ECVM Residency in the Center for Zoonoses, Animal Bacterial Diseases and Antimicrobial Resistance (ZOBA) at the Institute of Veterinary Bacteriology, University of Bern, with Prof. Joerg Jores, Dr. Gudrun Overesch and Dr. Sonja Kittl as her supervisors.
