João Mesquita graduated at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal and received his PhD in the speciality of Microbiology from the University of Porto in 2012. He has been teaching Animal Infectious Diseases since 2006 and is currently based at University of Porto, Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences, being additionally affiliated to EPIUnit – Public Health Institute.
His research interests focus mainly on viral diseases with a special interest on zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases, particularly those with health/economic impact, from vector-borne to food-borne.
