Dr. Overesch received her veterinary degree in 1993 from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany. Her doctoral thesis (PhD equivalent) in the field of veterinary immunology of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover was finished in 1996. Afterwards, she worked as assistant in a private veterinary diagnostic laboratory, which is specialized on equine microbiology. From 2000 to 2007, she worked in the field of food safety and hygiene at public service authorities, specialized on microbiology and molecular biology. In 2008, she took over the position as head of the center for zoonoses, bacterial animal diseases and antimicrobial resistance (ZOBA) at the Institute of Veterinary Bacteriology, University of Bern, Switzerland. This is an accredited laboratory harboring a diagnostic unit and several Swiss national reference laboratories. In 2018, the ZOBA was restructured and as head of the subdivision reference function and antimicrobial resistance monitoring she now concentrate on the international tasks within the European network. Dr. Overesch supervises master and doctoral students and is involved in the teaching of veterinary students. Dr. Overesch was elected as board member of the European Association of Veterinarian Diagnosticians (EAVLD) in 2018, she is committee member of the EUCAST subcommittee VetCAST since 2018 and active member of the European study Group on Veterinary Microbiology (ESGVM).
