Serafeim Chaintoutis graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) Greece, and completed a PhD in Microbiology-Immunology and Infectious Diseases (WNV evolutionary genetics, disease prevention, and diagnostics) at the same institution. He also holds an MSc in Infectious Diseases and International Medicine, from the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh). He has participated in more than 15 research projects, and also pursued a research internship at the Institute of Novel and Emerging Infectious Diseases of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI-INNT), Germany. For his excellence in studies and research activity, he received scholarships and awards, including a PhD scholarship from the Onassis Foundation.
He is currently affiliated with the Diagnostic Laboratory-Dept. of Clinical Sciences of the School of Veterinary Medicine AUTh and is involved in teaching Microbiology-Infectious Diseases, and related courses at AUTh and other academic institutions in Greece, as adjunct teaching staff. His research involves infectious diseases of various animal species, with primary interests that include pathogen characterization, developing and validating diagnostic assays, and evaluating animal-based zoonotic disease surveillance systems.
